This is our most commonly asked question. As much as it may be frustrating to hear, our response is it really depends. Many want to know what is the cost per square foot to build a custom home in Utah? The costs can vary so widely, we really need to get a good understanding of the type, size, and features your home will entail. We also need to understand the location and topography of your lot.
We can help you with budgeting the entire process of your home construction process. When you work with Mountainland Costruction, we break the cost down into the following categories to help you understand the entire picture:
Land and Development
We will work side by side with you to help select your perfect lot. The lot cost is client dependent. However, there are many variables to consider that may affect the cost of the build when we go to construction. We are here to help identify those items such as lot topography, retaining and drainage, utility locations, and HOA requirements so you don’t have any surprises after you’ve purchased your dream piece of land.
Design
We have relationships with some of the top drafters, architects, and interior designers in the state. We believe the best way to build a home is when the whole team can be on board from the beginning. Whether you have a design team already selected or would like us to help you put the team together, we’re here for you!
Construction
Once the floor plans are drawn up, it’s time to get bids on every piece of the construction process. This usually takes 2-3 weeks for us to accurately put together all pricing so you have the ”all-in” amount that your project will cost. Once you are happy with the proposed price it’s time to get permits and break ground on your new dream home.

There are many factors that affect the timeline for building a new home. From the topography and accessibility of the lot to size and complexity of the home, we consider all these things when providing you with the construction schedule for your project. the following timelines can be used as a general rule of thumb when planning your new home construction project:
Floor plans and Engineering: 1 to 6 months
Preconstruction and Permits: 1 to 2 months
Construction: 9 to 18 months.

As early as possible! We want to partner with you throughout your journey from site selection to developing plans to construction. Many still believe the old method of buying a lot, designing your home, then sending the plans out to multiple builders for bids is the best way to get the home of your dreams. This simply is not the case today. We’ve found new home owners who bring their builder along for the journey from the beginning are more satisfied with their finished home and have been able to keep within their budget much better than those who choose to bring a builder on after plans are complete.
